> For one year I read no news sites, watched no movies, and played no PC games.

How did you do that? Did you find something else to fill the time with?

When you describe the Via Negativa, I think, "This is what I really need, but I am too weak to do it."

Start small. Fasting is like weight lifting, in that you slowly gain the strength to do more.

So maybe choose a single day and don't watch movies or play games that day. And that's no small thing. Take every win.

I read a LOT of books and listened to music. It really was a great year, I look back on it fondly. Honestly, I'm not sure I could do it anymore either. My back was against the wall and I knew I absolutely had to change something or I would (probably) be dead within a few years. Highly motivated, you could say.

You can start small with Via Negativa by first figuring out the poisons in your life. As a Christian, for me some were sinful (pornography) and others weren't necessarily sins but just inputs that weakened me (liquour, movies, games). I found the list really handy as it helped me figure out which poisons were doing the most damage. A good day to make the list is one without entertainment - Just sit around, look out the window, and think big thoughts.
